Architect joins BHP multi-disciplinary planning team
28th Oct 2007
Blackett Hart & Pratt’s in-house planning and design consultancy is expanding to provide a complete service to clients with the appointment of its first fully qualified architect.
The firm already boasts planning solicitors, architectural designers, chartered town planners and construction specialists working out of its Darlington and Newcastle offices.
The appointment of award-winning architect David Mack to the Darlington-based team extends the design service to allow client projects to be taken from land purchase, through planning stage and on to construction on site.
David has joined from his role as a founding partner in Edinburgh practice Mill Architects, where he worked on residential, commercial, retail and cultural projects including the city’s Queen’s Hall live music venue.
Prior to that he was a design director at JM Architects in Edinburgh, one of the biggest practices in Scotland, where he worked on large projects such as hotels, sports centres, schools and most recently a large city centre office development for Scottish Widows.
David, who has moved to the North East to be closer to his wife’s family in Guisborough, said: “Historically my involvement has been in the early stages of a project, the planning end of architecture, and the presentation of design projects. Recently I’ve been more involved in the later contractual and construction project stages.
“At BHP I’ll be able to bring together all that experience as we build on the excellent design service that’s currently being provided and extend it right through to the on-site stage. It is a significant development to the service for clients whom we can now represent from the very beginning to the completion of a project.”
Steve Barker, head of BHP’s planning team at Darlington, said: “We’re delighted to welcome David who will lead our existing design team and whose talent and experience will be a great asset as we grow our planning service across the region.”
